An inconvenient truth
Dan’s already done a fine job of explaining why the media is suddenly so obsessed with Donald Trump’s “birther” status. I won’t rehash that here. All I’ll do is point out the fact that, like most of their efforts to prop up their failing queen, the birther angle is going to blow up in their collective face.
That’s because “Birtherism” can be traced directly to Hillary Clinton’s own 2008 campaign.
It was Hillary’s campaign that employed a strategy of attacking Obama’s “lack of American roots.”
It was Hillary’s campaign staffers that circulated emails questioning Obama’s citizenship.
It was Hillary’s campaign that released the Obama-in-a-turban photo pictured above.
In fact, as the Guardian reported, Obama’s campaign chastised Clinton’s people – multiple times – about her tactics.
Barack Obama’s campaign team today accused Hillary Clinton’s beleaguered staff of mounting a desperate dirty tricks operation by circulating a picture of him in African dress, feeding into false claims on US websites that he is a Muslim.
Obama’s campaign manager, David Plouffe, described it as “the most shameful, offensive fear-mongering we’ve seen from either party in this election”. Obama has had to spend much of the campaign stressing he is a Christian not a Muslim and did not study at a madrassa.
So, if Donald Trump is guilty of anything, it’s following Hillary’s lead on the issue. But hey, don’t take my word for it. Here’s the MSNBC Morning Joe panel making it perfectly clear who was behind the “Obama’s a Muslim” movement…
Obviously, the media is panicking because they’re well aware that their queen has a political glass jaw. So far, their efforts to derail Trump have failed and they’re hoping the “birther” angle will stick.
Newsflash: Like all their previous attempts, if Trump handles the response right, this will only end up backfiring.
