Black Lives Matter activists decided to block a highway during rush hour, and it turns out they won’t get very positive news in light of their actions.
Because of their actions in Richmond, Virginia, the BLM protesters will be facing jail time. Thirteen men and women blocked I-95 and refused to move until police showed up to take them all away, as per The Daily Caller.
They stood in the middle of the highway and screamed at the cars trying to get to and from work and home, “Black lives matter!” and “No justice, no peace, no racist police!”
After the police took them away, they all pleaded guilty to their actions of blocking traffic, which is not only dangerous but illegal. Their punishment was decided, and each of them had to spend five days in jail.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch listed the protesters and where they originated from. Only one was actually from the city of Richmond, Virginia. Some of them were from other cities in the state, and others were from different states like California and New York.
“It was rush hour. They put themselves in danger, and they put other people potentially in danger, so we thought that five days in jail was an appropriate punishment,” said Davis Powell, one of the case prosecutors.
Reportedly, one woman was allowed to push her jail time back due to her having final exams to take for college, but I think this should not have been given to her. She broke the law and got a nice deal with her punishment, but she still committed a crime.
After you commit a crime, you shouldn’t be able to “postpone” your time in the clink because it was your decision to break the law in the first place. Because of her actions, she should have been in jail and unable to take her tests.
Some would call that unfair, but you don’t get to break the law and not suffer for it. Every action has a consequence, and she should have been made to face those consequences the way every other adult should. Then, she would have learned her lesson to not protest in the middle of the road.
It is the people’s right as Americans to protest but not in the middle of a highway, which could have killed or injured these people if cars did not stop, and they could have injured the people in the vehicles as well. There are high speeds on highways, and stopping suddenly can have serious consequences.
Hopefully, the few nights in jail will be enough to teach them that there is a time and a place for protesting, and it is by no means the middle of the highway during rush hour. These liberals don’t need to be so radical with their protesters—go protest in a square like everybody else.
