Earlier this month, Western Journalism reported on one investigation indicating search-engine giant Google actively skewed its results to favor presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
While there is no crime in using algorithms to steer visitors to a preferred site or search term, the company faced significant backlash — from supporters of Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump, specifically — who were displeased with the apparent partisan stance.
With that report in mind, Western Journalism stumbled upon another suspicious search result on Friday while researching Trump’s new anti-Clinton website, LyingCrookedHillary.com.
As evidenced in the image below, Google offers several suggestions after entering the prompt “lying,” but none are the website we intended to visit. Instead, the top result is a deceptively similar, but diametrically different, site.
LyingCrookedHilary (with one ‘l’ in the former first lady’s name instead of two) sends unsuspecting web users to a page captioned with the authoritative statement: “Donald Trump is lying to you.”
As of this writing, however, even clicking on the suggested result offers a number of articles written about the legitimate Trump campaign site. Though no other major outlets have reported similar results, a few Twitter users apparently did.
@realDonaldTrump try and go on lyingcrookedhilary and Google reroutes u to a anti trump site

The actual page offers a video and statement critical of Clinton’s record, specifically her response to the 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya. The site also encourages visitors a chance to sign up for Trump’s newsletter or donate to his campaign.
