Michelle Obama is most known for her crusade on school lunches, working to change the nutrition of the young curriculum, but there is a surprise coming.
The House Freedom Caucus, a more conservative faction in the House, said they want a repeal of nutrition rules. “The regulations have proven to be burdensome and unworkable for schools to implement,” the Caucus said of the mandate, which calls for more fruits and veggies, less salt, or other harmful things like sugar and fat, as per Politico.
They gave out a 23-page list of 200 rules they want to be dismantled with Trump’s administration, and the nutrition issue is the main focus.
Some of them include the FDA’s update of the nutrition facts on food and updating the standards of school meals, which were brought to the limelight by the First Lady.
They also want to change the USDA’s catfish inspection rule, national forest management rules, loan guarantees, and requirements of euthanizing veal calves that can no longer walk or stand, but some things are not on the list.
This includes the FDA’s almost complete ban of trans fat, policies meant to limit antibiotic-use in agriculture, menu labeling, Food Safety Modernization Act rules, and the stocking mandates of SNAP food retailers.
If people want their kids to have healthier lunches, then they need to pay for it themselves. It takes too much money from the school to have super healthy foods and more things like fruit, vegetables, fewer starches, and less salt.
With the First Lady’s food vision in place, this kind of change takes up a huge amount of a school’s budget, which is also used for teachers’ salaries, school supplies that are not terribly outdated, and other such necessities.
Many of the mandates created under the Obamas have crushed the economy and have put us to the point of breaking, so there are things that need to be sacrificed in order for our economy to start growing again.
All parents want their children to eat right, but if our economy is in the gutter and nothing is done to fix it, then there won’t be any good food at all. We are trillions of dollars of debt, and many Americans are ignorant of that fact.
The first 100 days of Trump’s administration are sure to bring about a lot of changes because we have to get rid of the things the Obama administration thought were good ideas but ended up being more harebrained ones. It’s going to be tough, but the American people need to get ready for change because a lot of it is going to happen.
