The Benghazi debacle is certainly one of the most shocking events of this decade. In this kind of emergency situation, leadership and support is to be expected from the sitting secretary of state, but that’s not what Hillary delivered. Further, while the American people mourned the loss of a sitting ambassador and three men who protected him, Hillary exhibited the same cold-hearted behavior for which she is famous.
“This just came out today…when [Clinton’s] staff was preparing her for testimony, an opening statement for the select committee on Benghazi, one of them actually mentioned in an email that she shouldn’t focus too much on the ‘four guys’ who were killed,” Pence said regarding Clinton’s treatment of this incident. “Those were not ‘four guys.’ Those were four American heroes…Let me tell you something, I’m a father of a United States Marine. Anybody who said that, anybody who did that, should be disqualified from ever serving as commander-in-chief of the armed forces.”
While the rest of America was shocked and saddened by the death of these four brave men, Hillary Clinton simply saw the situation as a potential future liability, per Breitbart. Indeed, Clinton and her staff were so irreverent they routinely referred to the victims of Benghazi as just “those four guys.”
Besides the fact Clinton literally relegated heroes to the status of anonymous “guys,” not even naming them or referring to them as “men” or “citizens,” this instance is yet another indication of the overall self-interested mindset of Clinton and her supporters. An “act of war” like this is not seen as a tragedy or even a serious political event—it’s just nothing more than a political obstacle for Clinton to maneuver around.
“What difference, at this point, does it make?” Clinton famously quipped at the Benghazi hearing. Naturally, she proceeded to lie, showing to millions of Americans, again, that at all times Clinton only considers how to manipulate the American people into voting her to the next office she wishes to pursue.
This email chain, released by Wikileaks, is in part written by Mandy Grunwald, who was a political consultant to Clinton while she was secretary of state. Grunwald said she thought it was “odd” for her to include tributes to the “four guys” within Clinton’s prepared remarks for an upcoming public speaking venture.
The email chain was entitled “DRAFT: opening statement” and included Dan Schwerin, David Kendall, Jennifer Palmieri, Mandy Grunwald, Katherine Turner, Jake Sullivan, Cheryl Mills, and Phil Barnett. This group was strategizing the ways Clinton could spin her responsibility regarding Benghazi and absolve herself of any culpability.
Schwerin got the ball rolling first. He sent an initial draft of the opening statement on October 16, 2015 and noted his agreement with Mills on her prior recommendation to move quickly on any rebuttals regarding the final draft.
Grunwald responded three days later to issue a response that’s typical of any Clintonite. Grunwald called the statement “odd” and relegated the heroes to just “four guys.” Well, these men had names, and Mike Pence was appropriately disgusted with this response, along with millions of regular Americans.
R.I.P. Glen Doherty, Tyrone Woods, Sean Smith, and Ambassador Chris Stevens. You fought bravely in this firefight, and we will honor you as heroes.
You asked for help repeatedly during that 13-hour struggle. No reinforcements came from the Clinton state department, and in the weeks, months, and years following your deaths, only excuses came from Clinton. And she expects to believe she would be an effective leader for our country? Give me a break. Americans deserve better.
