Former Mexican President Vicente Fox recently made controversial statements about presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump that sounded a whole lot like a threat — and that could conceivably land him in jail.
“The gringo was hated all around the world, and this guy pretty soon he got the title,” Fox said during an interview with Kickass Politics in regard to Trump.
“He is the ugly American,” he continued. “He is the hated gringo, because he’s attacking all of us. He’s offending all of us. Imagine, I mean, that (he) could take us to a war. Not to a trade war.”
He added, “Don’t play around with us, we can jump walls, we can swim rivers, we can defend ourselves.” That sure sounded like a coyly made threat and perhaps even an attempt at voter intimidation, which U.S. Code 594 defines as any action that “intimidates, threatens, coerces … any other person for the purpose of interfering with the right of such other person … to vote for, or not to vote for, any candidate for the office of President.”
Moreover, such intimidation is punishable by up to one year in jail for each offense — assuming he made such statements on U.S. soil, where federal law would apply.
“I’m not going to pay for the f***ing wall!” the former Mexican president reportedly also said during the interview.
