Oh, our mistake. It was radical Islamists, of course.
You did a double take, didn’t you? And you secular leftists got pretty excited for a second there.
Finally! The day we’ve been waiting for!
No. The day you’re waiting for will never come, because evangelical Christians don’t behave like this. Only radical Islamists do. And now 10 people are dead in the Ambassador Hotel in Mogadishu because Somalia isn’t Islamist enough for the Al Qaeda affiliate of the week:
At least 10 people were killed Wednesday when militants, including suicide bombers, attacked a hotel popular with government officials and business executives in central Mogadishu, the Somali capital, on Wednesday.
A huge explosion and heavy gunfire punctuated the assault on the Hotel Ambassador. Police said at least 10 people were killed and the death toll will likely rise, Reuters reported.
The militant group al-Shabab, an Al-Qaeda affiliate that wants to turn Somalia into a fundamentalist Islamic state, claimed responsibility for the attack, according to media reports.
The assault began when suicide bombers blew up a vehicle laden with explosives at the gates of the hotel, the Associated Press reports. Gunmen then forced their way inside on foot.
“A suicide car bomber has targeted the Hotel Ambassador along Maka Al Mukaram Road. He rammed into the gate,” Colonel Ali Mohamed, a Mogadishu police officer, told Reuters.
Harun Maruf, a journalist for the Voice of America, tweeted that the militants appeared to have taken over the top floors of the hotel.
This same group was behind the Somali hotel attack last year, so they’re quite determined to get what they want, which is a Somalia that falls 100 percent under Islamist rule.
Here’s what I find interesting: The secular left in America, which worships government as its god, is fit to be tied over what they think is the prospect of Christian “dominionists” taking over the U.S. government, even though there is no hint that any such thing would be attempted by violent means. Here is an example of a very real effort by a very real religious group to take over the governments of any number of nations – and using murder, hostage standoffs and explosions to do it. No bones about it.
You’d think that this would bother the secular left enough that they might occasionally mention it. You’d think that. But you’d be wrong.
I pray there are no more deaths in Mogadishu, except for the perps if necessary. And I pray America gets itself some leaders who take this threat seriously, unlike the ones we’ve had for the past seven-and-a-half years.
