Bernie Sanders probably thought he was helping Hillary Clinton out.
The Vermont senator appealed to his supporters to rally behind the Democratic presidential nominee in spite of her personality.
“People have got to get beyond personality,” Sanders said Wednesday, responding to a question by ABC News on his message for the “Bernie or Bust” crowd. “And they’ve got to take a hard look at the issues that impact the lives of middle-class and working-class people. That’s what [the Clinton] campaign is really about.”

Sanders only recently became a surrogate for the Clinton campaign after giving the nominee a strong challenge in the Democratic primaries. He appeared at a campaign event with his former rival on Wednesday in Durham, N.H.
While his comment about personality could raise some eyebrows, he urged voters to support Clinton, noting that her “positions are far, far, far superior to Donald Trump,” the senator told ABC.
“I’m personally going to do everything I can to make sure that Trump does not become president of the United States,” he concluded.
Twitter users did not miss beat, responding to the senator’s call to ignore personality.
