The U.S. naval base located in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (aka Gitmo) serves as a military prison for extraordinarily dangerous people—a place to interrogate detainees and prosecute them for war crimes committed against the United States.
Some detainees are released and allowed to rejoin the outside world, but Obama never should have released any of these people!
In the first half of 2016, two more militants were released from Gitmo and have returned to fighting, as reported by Reuters.
If that wasn’t bad enough, Washington has confirmed that nine militants who were freed from Gitmo have rejoined their groups to continue fighting as they were before Obama took office in 2009.
In the time before Obama, Gitmo served as a prison for suspects of foreign terrorism who were held without charge or trial, but when Obama came into office, he wanted Gitmo’s doors closed for good!
Thanks to many lawmakers, Republican and others, Obama’s wish was declined and Guantanamo Bay remained open.
George W. Bush as well as Obama released people from Gitmo, and many of them have returned to the militant groups they had previously belonged to.
It’s easy to say the right thing to do would be to never let them out, but then Gitmo would quickly run out of room…and chaos would ensue.
This is what should be done if a detainee is released: tabs should be kept on them, so if they rejoin their terrorist organizations and continue to commit war crimes, justice can be brought against them swiftly.
I hope that Gitmo remains open so some of these criminals are safely locked behind bars—where they belong.
If we know where they are and we can confirm they are in their militant groups, why aren’t we doing anything about it?
Are we just going to sit back and release all of these criminals so they can keep destroying our country? Please share this story on Facebook and tell us what you think because we want to hear YOUR voice!
