Cops have evacuated a terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport. A suspicious package has been found.
The bomb squad has now been requested and is responding to the incident.
In addition, surrounding area around the suspicious item has been evacuated and all roadways to the terminal have been closed.
This comes just one day after three suicide bombers blew themselves up at an airport in Istanbul killing at least 41 people.
Police officials confirmed on Tuesday that they had increased high-visibility patrols with tactical weapons as a precautionary measure.
As Reuters reports:
A Homeland Security K-9 unit was checking into an unattended bag at about 8:30 a.m. EDT (1230 GMT) in the departure area of Terminal Five, said Joe Pentangelo, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which oversees the airport.
Pentangelo said the bomb squad had responded and roadways to the area were temporarily closed.
