Bristol Palin has walked down the aisle, and the groom couldn’t be more awesome.
According to Entertainment Tonight (via USA Today), Palin has married Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer. Meyer rose to fame as only the third living recipient of the Medal of Honor to come out of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as the second-youngest recipient overall.
“Life is full of ups and downs but in the end, you’ll end up where you’re supposed to be,” Palin and Meyer said in a joint statement. “We are so happy to share with loved ones the wonderful news that we got married!”
Bristol Palin and Meyer have a daughter together, and she has a son from a previous relationship with Levi Johnston. The two had been engaged in May of 2015 but called off the engagement some time later.
Details of the ceremony — when and where it took place, who was present, etc. — weren’t immediately available, but one hopes that it was as awesome as it sounds.
Meyer, a sergeant with the United States Marine Corps, came to national prominence after his brave actions during an attack in 2009. On Sept. 8, near the Afghani village of Ganjgal, Meyer learned that three Marines and a Navy corpsman had gone missing after an ambush by insurgent forces.
On his own, Meyer entered an area of insurgent activity and discovered the bodies of the four men. With the help of Afghan soldiers, he moved the bodies so that they could be recovered. While he was doing this, Sgt. Meyer “personally evacuated 12 friendly wounded and provided cover for another 24 Marines and soldiers to escape likely death at the hands of a numerically superior and determined foe.”
Just over a year later, Meyer would be given the Medal of Honor by President Obama.
What an awesome choice of husband. We wish them the best of the luck.
