BREAKING: Congress Just Made a Biggest Step Toward Impeachment!

Conservatives in the U.S. House of Representatives, led by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), have made good on their promise to force a vote on the impeachment of IRS chief John Koskinen.

Koskinen, who has been in the center of the controversy surrounding the IRS targeting conservative and tea party organizations, repeatedly lied under oath during his testimony. Republicans in the House are accusing Koskinen on covering up the scandals and hiding details from investigators, looking to find the truth behind the illegal targeting scandal.

The motion is a privileged resolution, which circumvents the committee process and goes straight to the floor for a full vote. This is incredible!

Rep. John Fleming, R-La., on Thursday morning made a motion to call up his resolution to impeach IRS Commissioner John Koskinen, a move that could set up an impeachment vote in September when lawmakers return from summer recess.

Fleming read out the text of his resolution, which he and Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Kan., introduced Wednesday. The resolution accuses Koskinen of “high crimes and misdemeanors,” including the failure to provide Congress with information about the IRS targeting scandal.

Conservatives have been seeking an impeachment vote after the scandal in which the IRS admitted to slow-walking tax-exempt status applications for conservative groups. But House Republican leaders have been cool to the idea, and would rather focus on an agenda that highlights a positive agenda they think will help win votes in November.

If impeached, it would lead to an immediate trial in the U.S. Senate, and if convicted Koskinen would be out of a job.

Rep. Jordan opined, “Mr. Koskinen has failed the American people through gross negligence, dereliction of duty, and violating the public trust.”
