Of the many criticisms launched against billionaire businessman and presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump as to why he can’t win a general election matchup in November is that he is hated by Hispanics, who will never vote for him.
While Trump does have a rather high unfavorable rating among many Hispanics, that doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t vote for him, as a surprising recent poll showed.
The poll, conducted by One America News Network and Gravis Marketing, revealed an exceptionally tight race, with presumptive Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton beating Trump 51-49 percent, well within the 2 percent margin of error.
While both candidates do equally well with members of their own party, Trump has a decisive edge when it comes to independents. When the poll is broken down by demographics, however, that is where things get interesting.
Not surprisingly, Clinton drew roughly 87 percent support from black voters, while Trump enjoys broad support from white voters. But when it came to Hispanic voters, Trump astonishingly led Hillary by 10 points, 55-45 percent.
Trump also enjoyed a significant lead among the more religious in this country, particularly evangelicals, 81 percent of whom preferred Trump to Hillary.
As to the media narrative that Hispanics hate Trump and would never vote for him, that likely comes from the vocal opposition he has received from illegal immigrants and the people who support them, and not from legal immigrants, many of whom also want the border secured and immigration laws enforced. It also ignores Hillary’s own problems with Hispanic voters.
Keep in mind that this poll was conducted around May 10, just a few short days after Trump celebrated Cinco de Mayo on social media by posting a picture of himself eating a taco bowl while proclaiming his love for the Hispanic people, love that apparently is being reciprocated.

Hillary and the media thought she would be quickly crowned and ushered into the White House with minimal opposition, but Trump and his many and varied supporters have a thing or two to say about that.
