At a time when the Obama administration is declaring that ISIS is “on the run,” a new warning is coming from FBI Director James Comey about the ever increasing threat of terrorism coming out of Syria.
Comey declared that the threat is “an order of magnitude greater than anything we’ve seen before.”
Business Insider reports on this update via Reuters:
As a number of ISIS attacks have rocked Europe, it can be difficult to remember that the group is largely on the back foot.
“They are on the run,” US Secretary of State John Kerry said in an interview on CNN last week while addressing the spate of terror attacks by the group. “And I believe what we are seeing are the desperate actions of an entity that sees the noose closing around them.”
However, as ISIS does steadily lose ground through conventional warfare in the Middle East, the group’s attacks against civilians around the world will only likely increase — at least for the time being.
“At some point there is going to be a terrorist diaspora out of Syria like we’ve never seen before,” explained FBI Director James B. Comey at a cybersecurity conference at Fordham University on Wednesday, the New York Times reports. “Not all of the Islamic State killers are going to die on the battlefield.”
As the terror group’s territory shrinks, dedicated fighters within the group will travel to find new locations to conduct their operations — most likely in hiding. Comey continued by saying that many of these core fighters would migrate to Western Europe as ISIS loses ground. And, there is always the risk that some of them would eventually reach the US.
When compared to threats of the 1980s and 1990s, Comey stated that the current threat is of a magnitude 10 times greater than that.
It seems that the situation in Iraq and Syria is getting worse by the day. Even with military strikes being conducted against the Islamic State terrorists, the group is not letting up. In fact, it seems to be exacerbating the problem outside of the Middle East with only a slight containment in the region.
As we see in Europe, there is an increasing number of terror attacks, and migrants from the Middle East are starting to essentially enforce Sharia on the native populations.
Yet despite the sharp spike in terrorist attacks in Europe, the EU will continue its naive, foolhardy, and negligent open borders policy. Even Germany, which has experienced four terrorist attacks in one week, will continue to accept floods of refugees, according to Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Not to mention that Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine want an all out amnesty program within the first 100 days of inauguration, in addition to resettling over 1 million Middle Eastern migrants here in the United States.
What could possibly go wrong with this idea?
There’s some sort of disconnect here: terrorist attacks are on the rise, the threat is at an unprecedented level, and yet loony politicians want to bring in MORE of the very crowd out of which jihadists grow.
We can no longer rely on the government to protect us. We have only each other.
