The current administration claims that the Iran deal was one of the biggest accomplishments of President Barack Obama’s term.
How proud are they of it? Well, so proud that they were actually willing to censor eight minutes of a State Department press briefing where a spokeswoman answered questions about the country.
According to a Fox News report, eight minutes of a State Department press conference were erased from video on both the official State Department website and on YouTube in which spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters that they sometimes had to be misled on Iran for the country’s own good.
“There are times where diplomacy needs privacy in order to progress. This is a good example of that,” Psaki said in response to a question.
The White House claimed it had no idea how the eight minutes of material was deleted and vowed to restore it.
Sadly, this is hardly the only time where the White House and Obama administration stands accused of manipulating facts to mislead the mainstream media. The video revelation comes on the heels of a New York Times Magazine profile of deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes, in which he boasted of manipulating the press over the Iran deal.
“We created an echo chamber,” Rhodes said, admitting they circulated a set of White House-approved talking points to the media. “They were saying things that validated what we had given them to say.”
Sen. John McCain of Arizona has become the highest-profile Republican official to respond to the weekend profile. The 2008 GOP standard bearer issued a strongly worded statement Monday, saying the profile “exposed how the White House manipulated and, in some cases, manufactured facts to sell the reckless Iran nuclear deal to the American people as a prelude to large-scale disengagement from the Middle East.”
Unfortunately, McCain is coming around to this truth too late for it to be any good. We’ve known for quite some time that the White House and its allies will manipulate the facts and the press to achieve its goals, especially on Iran.
Now, Iran has a sweetheart deal and America is left with an administration trying desperately to eliminate evidence of its deviousness.
