When should you not attack Donald Trump over his delay in releasing his tax returns? Well, for starters, when you tried to delete 30,000 emails off of a private email server, including 2,000 which contained classified information. Or when you won’t release transcripts of speeches you gave.
In other words, if you’re Hillary Clinton, you probably have absolutely no reason to talk. However, that doesn’t mean she’s not going to.
During a campaign stop in New Jersey, Clinton said, “You’ve got to ask yourself, why does he not release them?”
So, let’s look at Clinton’s record of not releasing stuff, starting with her speech transcripts. During an interview with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell, Mitchell asked, “What was in that speech that you wouldn’t want to reveal to the people who are voting for you?”
“Nothing,” Clinton said, her eyes darting about.
“So why not just put it out there?” Mitchell responded.
“Well, because I know that others — including Mr. Trump — have made speeches … I’ve put out 33 years of tax returns …” Clinton continued.
“So if he puts out his tax returns, will you put out your transcripts?” Mitchell responded.
“No! Let’s talk about apples and apples!” Clinton said, apparently forgetting she had just brought it up less than 15 seconds prior.
It doesn’t stop with her speeches, though. Let’s also look at her email server. Last August, it was revealed that Hillary and her people tried to “wipe” the server — an intensive process which not only deletes the data but should theoretically render it unreadable.
When a reporter asked her whether she ever attempted to wipe the server during a town hall event in Las Vegas, she responded, “What, like, with a cloth or something?”
Most people don’t care about Donald Trump’s tax returns. They do, however, care whether Hillary Clinton broke the law. That’s the fundamental problem she’ll have to overcome before November — if she can.
