The FBI intends to release transcripts of the 911 calls that Orlando terrorist shooter Omar Mateen made inside the Pulse nightclub during the June 12 attack — but will first censor all references to “Islam” or “ISIS,” Attorney General Loretta Lynch told “Meet the Press” on Sunday.
While the obvious motive behind it seems to be an overabundance of political correctness, Lynch insisted it was (more or less) because if they released the tape with those words, the terrorists would have already won.
“FBI is releasing a partial [printed] transcript of the killer’s calls with law enforcement, from inside the club,” she told host Chuck Todd.
“What we’re not going to do is further proclaim this man’s pledges of allegiance to terrorist groups, and further his propaganda.”
“We’re not going to hear him talk about those things?” an incredulous Todd responded.
“We will hear him talk about some of those things, but we are not going to hear him make his assertions of allegiance and that,” Lynch said.
The Democratic Party has long been a cesspool of identity politics: it is far less concerned with what is wrong and what is right than it is with who is “wrong” and who is “right.” And when it comes to the latter formulation, liberals have reached the answer long in advance of the question.
So, for instance, if a Muslim commits an act of terror and pledges himself to the foremost terrorist group of our time, it’s not really Islamic terror. He was frustrated, or he hated gays, or he was being discriminated against. To the Democrats, the Islamic State group wasn’t even really involved — it’s actually the Republicans’ fault, since they haven’t dismantled the Second Amendment.
However, if the Obama administration and the Department of Justice are so confident in this interpretation, how about they release the full transcript to the American people, references to Islam and the Islamic State group intact? After all, Americans ought to be able to make their own decision about whether the mephitic effect of radical Islam has anything to do with the savagery that claimed 49 innocent lives on June 12.
But there’s the rub: the Obama administration doesn’t trust you to make your own decision on the Orlando terror attack, because you may come to a different conclusion than they have. They’ve made your mind up for you, and seeing the real facts of the case might lead you astray. Best they keep them tucked out of sight for your own good, no?
This is the enraging paternalism of liberalism — the idea that we can’t be entrusted with our diet, with our retirement funds, with schooling our kids, even with being able to make up our own minds. The government will do it for us, even if censorship is part of the equation.
It’s time we saw the real transcripts and got the real story on Orlando. America deserves to know. Please like and share on Facebook and Twitter if you agree.
