Omar Mateen: Orlando shooter. Terrorist. Islamic extremist. Hillary Clinton supporter.
That’s right, in one of the least-reported aspects of the Orlando terror attacks, it seems that Omar Mateen #WasWithHer. A piece in The Washington Post, written by a member of Mateen’s former mosque who reported him to the FBI, claimed that Mateen was a supporter of the presumptive Democrat nominee for president.
The article by Mohammed A. Malik was published Monday. It is, in many respects, another hate-conservative piece (predictably, even though he has scarcely anything to do with the story, the first two words of the article are “Donald” and “Trump”).
In a number of respects, though, it’s a fascinating look into just how much authorities knew about Mateen — and how badly they dropped the ball.
Malik wrote that he met Mateen at an Iftar (dinner to break Ramadan fast) back in 2006. In 2014, after a young man from their local mosque became the first American-born suicide bomber, Malik was talking with Mateen about the youth’s radicalization process.
Mateen revealed then that he had been watching the sermons of terrorist imam Anwar Al-Awlaki, which he called “powerful.” That was enough for Malik to report him to the FBI.
“Omar and I continued to have infrequent conversations over the next few years,” Malik wrote. “I last saw him at a dinner at his father’s house in January. We talked about the presidential election and debated our views of the candidates that were running — he liked Hillary Clinton and I liked Bernie Sanders. This banter continued through texts and phone calls for several months.”
Mateen was also a registered Democrat.
Full name of Orland gunman suspect is Omar Mir Seddique Mateen. Registered as democrat, born in 1986.

If a terrorist had been an avowed supporter of presumed Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump or Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, there would have been long, agonizing think pieces in the liberal media about whether or not conservative values were linked to terroristic urges. There would be calls for the GOP to renounce the terrorist and change their “divisive rhetoric.” It would be all over every front page in America.
However, when it turns out to be a Democrat, there’s nothing more than a cacophony of crickets.
