BREAKING: Police Have Just Identified Man Who Killed 22-Year-Old Singer

Police identified the killer of singer of rising star and former The Voice performer Christina Grimmie as a 27-year-old St. Petersburg, Fla., man.

Kevin James Liobl traveled to Orlando Friday night, killed Grimmie as she gave autographs to fans after the show, and then shot himself after a struggle with Grimmie’s brother, Marcus, Orlando police said.

When WFLA tracked down Loibl’s home, there was a note posted on the door that read, “Deepest sorrow for lost to the family, friends & fans of the very talented, Loving Christina Grimmie No other commets.”

“She was doing a meet-and-greet, just signing autographs and selling merchandise. This white male approached her and opened fire, striking her,” Orlando Police Chief John said Saturday. “We believe he came here to commit this crime.”

Orlando police have said there is no known personal connection between Loibl and Grimmie. Police have said they believe Loibl left St. Petersburg, armed with two handguns with spare magazines and a hunting knife, with the intention of killing Grimmie. They said he planned to return home, suggesting that he did not intend to commit suicide. Police did not find a car belonging to Grimmie in Orlando.

Kaitlin Martin, 17, had been outside The Plaza Live, where the concert was held, when she heard several loud “pops.”

“We thought at first they were balloons … but then security started running all over the place yelling at people to get out because someone has a gun and someone is shooting. Everyone is just running all over the place,” said Martin. “It was chaos.”

Martin was chilled by the knowledge a killer was in the concert venue with her.

“This person was in the crowd with us, and while we were singing, having a great time, he was there with different intentions,” she said.
