Target probably thought that they would score some points with the political correctness crowd when it recently announced its transgender bathroom and dressing room policy.
Instead, what it got was severe backlash, a boycott, and now some tough questions from Texas’ attorney general.
According to the Austin American-Statesman, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sent Target CEO Brian Cornell a letter asking how the retail chain planned to protect women and children in its restrooms now that it was letting customers pick their bathroom based on their gender identity.
“Target, of course, is currently free to choose such a policy for its Texas stores. The voters in Houston recently repealed by a wide margin an ordinance that advanced many of the same goals as Target’s current policy,” Paxton wrote.
“The Texas Legislature may at some point in the future address the issue. Regardless of whether Texas legislates on this topic, it is possible that allowing men in women’s restrooms could lead to criminal and otherwise unwanted activity,” he continued.
“As chief lawyer and law enforcement officer for the State of Texas, I ask that you provide the full text of Target’s safety policies regarding the protection of women and children from those who would use the cover of Target’s restroom policy for nefarious purposes.”
The American Family Association, which has organized the largest boycott against Target for its new policy, said it was thrilled with Attorney General Paxton’s letter.
“It’s fabulous that someone in leadership in our country is stepping up to the plate and asking the tough questions that need to be asked,” AFA spokesman Walker Wildmon said.
This is why people have problems with Target’s new policy, which allows “transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity.”
The problem here is not that Americans are transphobic, but that Target will instead become a haven for perverts and sickos of all types. It’s about safety, not “tolerance.”
Maybe now, the left will wake up to this, and more states will begin asking the hard questions about Target’s dangerous policy.
