In today’s day and age, it’s difficult to find workers who will go the extra mile — especially inside a big box store. After all, a lot of these workers are hurried and have little training (or interest) in their job.
Therefore, it’s always nice to see when one of them goes above and beyond the call of duty. And in this case, well beyond the call of duty.
This story came to us from Basingstoke, United Kingdom, a small town about 50 miles southwest of London. A mother with two blind, autistic children was rushing around in Morrisons, trying to shop.
Amanda Wilkins finally made it to the store checkout with her two girls when the checker realized what was happening. That’s when she made an amazing move.
“I would like to say a massive thank you to the lady in the photo (sorry didn’t see her name) who helped me today at Morrisons in Basingstoke. I have two children that are both registered blind and are also autistic,” Wilkins said in a Facebook post.
“As you can imagine shopping is not an easy thing for me to do, at the checkout both girls decided to go into meltdown and this very kind lady decided to help instead of judge. It doesn’t happen very often!
“She distracted my daughter by letting her scan all my shopping. A dream come true for Holly who loves playing ‘shops’. It melts my heart to come across people that are prepared to go the extra mile, and little acts of kindness makes a massive difference to my world.
“I hope this gets back to her and she knows how much we appreciate it.”
The post has been liked by over 570,000 people in just a week. And, according to Morrisons, it definitely got back to her.
“Well, I don’t know where to start with this one Amanda just reading this story has brought a tear to my eye,” a response from the chain’s official account read.
“What an amazing lady (Lin) is and what a credit she is to our company, we are very proud to say she works for Morrisons and after reading Simon’s (the store manager, apparently) comments below I can tell he is also very proud. Lin is a great role model for all of us here at Morrisons.
“It’s amazing how something small can make a massive difference to others and Its (sic) lovely to hear that one of your daughters (sic) dreams has been brought to life by this act of kindness.”
It goes to show that a little patience and a lot of love can go a very long way.
