In the aftermath of the Orlando terror attack, the issues of Shariah law and radical Islam have once again become the center of debates all across America.
A poll conducted in 2015 by the Center for Security Policy had some truly shocking numbers about Shariah law and how Muslims viewed it. Of course, the numbers may have changed slightly since 2015, but there is no reason to believe they have shifted drastically.
The poll found that 51 percent of those surveyed agreed with the statement, “Muslims in America should have the choice of being governed according to Shariah,” while 32 percent disagreed.
Another 60 percent of those surveyed agreed that “Shariah as interpreted by Islamic authorities is compatible with the U.S. Constitution, including freedom of speech and other rights,” while only 21 percent disagreed.
When it came to terrorism and carrying out jihad against those who “insult the prophet Muhammad, the Quran, or Islamic faith,” 29 percent agreed that such violence was acceptable.
That is the number should terrify all of us. While it is a low percentage, that still potentially represents roughly 800,000 of the nearly three million Muslims living in America who believe bombing and shooting people is a reasonable course of action if someone mentions the historical fact that Muhammad was a violent child rapist.
That’s a lot of potential terrorists.
Adding to that, 19 percent of those surveyed agreed that “violence in the United States is justified in order to make Shariah the law of the land in this country.”
Oh, good. Only 19 percent. So that’s only a little more than half a million potentially violent Muslims, or roughly the same number of soldiers currently enlisted in the U.S. Army. For a minute there, I was worried we were outnumbered, but we still have all those other branches of service, so I’m sure everything will be just fine.
Despite these numbers, our government continues to tell us that radical Islam is a figment of our imagination and we have nothing to be worried about.
While there are certainly many peaceful in the United States would identify as Muslims, it is the hundreds of thousands who think imposing Shariah on all of us by force would be a good thing that all of us — including those peaceful Muslims — should be worried about.
