“Voter outrage” will trump (yeah, we know) the damage from leaked Clinton Foundation secrets. They hope.
If there’s one thing Democrats do better than anyone, it’s playing the victim. And that’s a handy skill when you’re so inept at so many things. When your own incompetence jumps up to bite you in the ass (say, ObamaCare, or Obama’s general economic ignorance), you turn yourself into the victim by demonizing the people who simply act rationally in reaction to your foolishness (health insurance companies, doctors, multinational corporations, etc.)
If only they hadn’t raised rates! If only they hadn’t moved their operations overseas! Of course, they only did all those things as a perfectly understandable reaction to Democrats’ idiotic policies. But no matter. They’re the bad guys because Democrat foolishness can never, ever be a factor in anything that goes wrong.
So it will go with their complete incompetence in the realm of data security. Whether it’s Hillary’s schlock, homebrew e-mail server, the DNC’s system or the Clinton Foundation – it seems there’s no type of Democrat data that hackers can’t get into. And that’s a pretty big problem when most of what you do in secret would cause you trouble if the public knew about it.
So what exactly do these Russian hackers have on the Clinton Foundation and the DNC? And does this Guccifer 2.0 guy have?
Whatever it is, the Democrats are apparently hoping their victim act will spare them the consequences of everyone finding out about it:
If the Democrats can show the hidden hand of Russian intelligence agencies, they believe that voter outrage will probably outweigh any embarrassing revelations, a person familiar with the party’s thinking said.
So far the released documents have revealed little that is new or explosive, but that could change. Guccifer 2.0 has threatened to eventually release thousands of internal memos and other documents.
Sensitive documents from the Clinton Foundation could have the most damaging potential. The Trump camp has said it plans to make the foundation’s activities a subject of attacks against Clinton; the sort of confidential data contained in e-mails, databases and other digital archives could aid that effort.
To the extent that we’re dealing in 30-years-ago realities, the Democrats may be right. The dinosaur media probably will downplay any embarrassing revelations and embrace the Democrats-as-innocent-victims-of-evil-hackers storyline. The problem with that, of course, is that the dinosaur media no longer controls the dissemination of all information. Our site and plenty of others will scour the leaked information and point out the parts that reveal what frauds and malefactors the Democrats really are. Just because NBC News chooses to bury it doesn’t mean people won’t know about it.
I do think we may be reaching a point where normal people’s ability to distribute information is catching up to the media’s determination to ignore it, such that you’ll see a greater crisis of trust between the media and the public – which knows what the media are covering up, and won’t stand for it when there are plenty of other (and better) ways to get information.
The entire Clinton political machine would not be possible but for the fact that the mainstream media protects them by choosing not to report what it knows about the things they do. Remember, Newsweek had the Lewinsky story and chose to sit on it. Only after the Drudge Report ran with it did the mainstream media reluctantly follow suit.
If the MSM thinks the public will buy a Democrats-as-victims narrative, while the public is actually getting a chance to look at damning information about the so-called victims, I would like to think the MSM would be at risk of losing its influence on the public – permanently.
God knows that development is long overdue.
