With the Republican National Convention only weeks away, presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is in the process of vetting possible candidates to join him as his vice presidential running mate.
NBC News, citing unidentified sources, reported that Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is one of those under consideration, and that he was scheduled to meet with Trump on Friday. Should the governor, who is a social conservative, be chosen as Trump’s running mate, he might help win over conservatives who are skeptical of Trump on social issues.
Along with Pence, Trump reportedly also is considering former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to join his ticket.
The GOP convention will be held in Cleveland July 18-21.
