A retired top State Department official claimed this week that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s “sloppy communications with her senior staff” may have been responsible for several of his counterterrorism operations going bust.
“I had several missions that went inexplicably wrong, with the targets one step ahead of us,” Bill Johnson, who served as the department’s political adviser to the special operations section of the U.S. Pacific Command in 2010 and 2011, revealed during an interview with Newsweek.
For instance, during a mission to target Umbra Jumbdail, the founder of the Islamic militant group Abu Sayyaf, Johnson’s team kept losing him over and over again.
“He would be gone three hours before, sometimes as little as a half-hour before (the counterterrorism teams moved in),” Johnson said. “We knew he was getting tipped off somehow. We just didn’t know why.”
Something similar happened in 2012, when Johnson’s team set up a trap for agents from the United Arab Emirates who were slated to purchase Chinese-made weapons in Bangkok — but again, “word of it leaked.”
Incidentally, Johnson has always suspected that Clinton’s atrociously poor communication habits were responsible for the endless leaks, though it wasn’t until 2010 that he first realized just how “sloppy” she really happened to be.
After delivering a speech in Honolulu, Clinton reportedly retreated to the basement of the Pacific Command headquarters and asked for permission to make a call to her senior staff members back in Washington, D.C.
Because she lacked either a secure telephone number or email address, Johnson refused, as allowing her to use her personal phone in the secured facility would have triggered alarms and lockdowns. So instead she went outside and made the call there — on an open and completely unsecure line.
Talk about stupid.
Given what we now know about Clinton’s unethical and potentially illegal use of a private email address on a personal server, it seems clear as day that the reason Johnson’s operations kept being foiled were because of one and only one person: Hillary Rodham Clinton.
