Seddique Mateen, father of Omar Mateen, was spotted at a rally for Hillary Clinton on Monday in Kissimmee, Florida. Mateen’s son Omar killed 49 people at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, on June 12th, the deadliest act of terrorism in the United States since 9/11.
The elder Mateen was first spotted at the rally by WPTV in West Palm Beach.
NewsChannel 5 asked Mateen what he was thinking about when Clinton spoke about the Orlando incident.
“We’ve been cooperating with the federal government, and that’s about it,” he said. “Thank you.” Mateen didn’t want to answer any other questions, but just hours later, we ran into him by chance at a rest stop on the way back to West Palm Beach. He wanted to do an interview and show us a sign he made for Clinton.
“Hillary Clinton is good for United States versus Donald Trump, who has no solutions,” he said.
Ironically, Clinton began her speech with a tribute to those killed during the Pulse nightclub shooting.
In addition to being the father of mass murderer Omar Mateen, who pledged allegiance to ISIS during his deadly rampage, Seddique is himself connected to radical Islamist groups and was a vocal supporter of the Afghan Taliban according to reporting from Breitbart.
The Clinton campaign has released a statement about Mateen’s father attending the Kissimmee rally in which they claim they were unaware of his presence:
“The rally was a 3,000-person, open-door event for the public. This individual wasn’t a invited as a guest and the campaign was unaware of his attendance until after the event.”
