First Lady takes one night trip to Morocco, costing taxpayers $612,322

The Obama family is known for taking far too many vacations and golf trips. Another example of this is Michelle Obama’s one night stay in Morocco, which cost taxpayers over $600,000.

President Obama traveled alongside her daughters Sasha and Malia and her mother Marian Robinson in order to promote her education initiative “Let Girls Learn.”

Obama arrived wearing a $1,750 designer dress and ended the night with a “lavish dinner” with guests Princess Lalla Salma and actress Meryl Streep. In the 24 hours she was away in the North African country, three five-star hotels were booked, according to contracts signed by the State Department.

Two contracts were signed to stay at the Royal Mansour, which is worth $50,000 and $10,073. The hotel has a mother-daughter spa suite and promises its guests “wonder, luxury and unparalleled services.”

Not only was that hotel booked, she also had the Hotel Sofitel Marrakech Lounge and Spa booked during her 24-hour stay. The contracts were worth $200,000, $31,968 and $28,039. Of course the Secret Service had to be present — which cost taxpayers another $133,493 for their rooms and a pre-advance visit cost of $4,676.

The additional room was booked at the Pearl Marrakeck Hotel, costing $24,934.

Obama obviously needed transportation for her 24-hour royal stay in Morocco, as she was traveling around the country to get numerous spa treatments. Renting a car and driver cost $9,966, and car service for the Secret Service, White House Military Office and the White House Communications agency totaled $122,173.

And to top it all off, in 2012, Michelle Obama complained several times about the First Lady not being paid for her duties.
