Governor LePage released a statement in regards to a Cruz operative who is attempting to suppress the delegate count for Donald Trump and Ted Kasich. Northeast Political Director David Sawyer pledged to LePage that he would present a unified front for all Maine residents to make sure their vote was counted. Guess what happened?
That’s right. Sawyer didn’t keep his word, and now Governor LePage is furious. “We reached a deal with Cruz’s national campaign to put up a unity slate that would honor the wishes of the thousands of Mainers who voted at caucus…David Sawyer lied to us and broke the deal.”
Individuals such as Sawyer keep giving this year’s political process a bad name. Instead of letting each candidate have his fair share, they are trying to maneuver to where Ted Cruz would receive all 23 delegates.
In a word: shameful.
Granted, Ted Cruz makes a halfhearted attempt to stay above the fray, and Governor LePage even referred to him as an “honorable man” when he called on him to denounce these dirty tactics. The problem, of course, is that these allegations of dishonesty continue to follow Ted Cruz wherever he goes.
If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, and acts like a duck then yes, it is most likely a duck.
All in all, a bad day for Ted Cruz because he has once again made himself look bad at the least. It was, however, a good day for Donald Trump because of the support he has continued to receive from the Maine governor.
