Susan Rice, former U.N. ambassador and current National Security Advisor, was the target of remarks made by South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy at his Benghazi news conference Tuesday.
With the Benghazi Committee finally releasing it investigative report, new information showed that, even within the Obama administration, State Department officials were not sure where Rice was getting her information or why she was even making those appearances.
“State Department employees in Washington, D.C., who had spoken with those on the ground in Libya after the attack were universal in their condemnation of Rice’s statements,” the committee stated, pointing to emails gathered during the course of their investigation.
Shortly after Rice’s talk show appearances, the State Department’s senior Libya desk officer sent an email to colleagues, stating, “I think Rice was off the reservation on this one,” to which the deputy director of the bureau of near eastern affairs responded, “Off the reservation on five networks!”
