Most of us can envision the archetypal Mother’s Day. Mom gets breakfast in bed, cooked by the kids. Then she gets her presents — maybe an iPad, jewelry or a homemade card from the young’uns — followed by a lovely dinner at mom’s favorite restaurant.
According to Chelsea Clinton, though, you’re doing Mother’s Day all wrong. Chelsea says that Mother’s Day should be all about one mother — namely, hers.
In a fundraising letter sent out for Chelsea on behalf of her mother’s campaign, she used the occasion to get some cash out of Clinton’s already-credulous donors.
“With all the noise out there, it can be hard to remember how many of us there are who are standing with my mom, fighting by her side to break down the barriers that hold people back,” the email read, according to The Daily Caller.
“So for Mother’s Day, I thought we could show her just how many of us are on her side — that’s why I’m putting together a Mother’s Day card for the whole campaign family to sign.
“Will you take a moment to add your name and send my mom some good thoughts? We’re going to give her the card and all the signatures on Sunday, and I know how much she’d appreciate hearing from you,” the email continued.
“Thank you. I’m so happy you’re part of this team — and I know my mom is, too.”
Oh, good grief.
Just in case you were wondering, the link to the “card” was someplace you could put down your name and ZIP code — and donate, should you so choose. Wink, wink.
Well, at least this is proof the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, no matter how rotten that tree has become.
When I read this letter, it sounded like the most Hillary thing I’d ever heard: Let’s take a holiday meant to celebrate the sacrifices and blessings of motherhood and turn it into something about Hillary fighting “to break down the barriers that hold people back.”
And yet, Chelsea’s name is on it. Unbelievable. For those of you who were worrying, don’t fret. It looks like we have a brand new generation of Clintonian lying, pandering and solipsism still to come.
