While the media has had a large fixation with billionaire businessman Donald Trump over the past months, they have also been deliberately twisting his words to try to turn people against him.
MSNBC reported that the media’s latest spin job was on Donald Trump’s remarks on raising the minimum wage. The media, and several Republicans, have been stating that Trump’s comments on raising the minimum wage were proof that he is a flip-flopper.
The only problem is that Trump’s actual comments on the minimum wage weren’t nearly as bad as people tried to make them out to be.
“I would like to see an increase of some magnitude,” Trump stated. “But I’d rather leave it to the states. Let the states decide. Because don’t forget, the states have to compete with each other.”
Note that Trump explained that he wanted to leave the choice up to the states. Trump went on to explain his position further after Chuck Todd asked if the federal minimum wage should be increased.
“No, I’d rather have the states go out and do what they have to do. And the states compete with each other, not only other countries, but they compete with each other, Chuck,” he stated.
“You know, with what’s happened to the economy, with what’s happened to the cost. I mean, it’s just — I don’t know how you live on $7.25 an hour. But I would say let the states decide,” Trump added.
Trump wants people in America to be able to make more, but he doesn’t want the federal government to be in charge of that. If getting the federal government out of our lives isn’t a conservative position, I don’t know what is.
Always be sure to find the full transcripts of Trump’s remarks when someone accuses him of something. The media may like reporting on Trump, but that doesn’t mean they are going to actually tell the truth about him.
