Sirius Radio host Howard Stern took time from his broadcast Wednesday to give his thoughts on Sunday’s tragic shooting in an Orlando nightclub.
Responding to demands from liberals to take away American’s rights to own firearms, Stern said, “I’m so upset about Orlando and what went down, but I can’t believe these people who come out afterwards and their answer to Orlando is to take away guns from the public. It’s f***ing mind-blowing to me.”
Stern explained his reasoning with an illustration using sheepdogs, sheep and wolves. He stated the military and the police consider themselves to be sheepdogs, while the public citizens are the sheep. “Most of us sit around all day and we don’t know how to defend ourselves. We basically think everything’s OK,” he said.
He called ISIS and all other terrorists — “homegrown or otherwise” — the wolves, and said they are armed with AR-15’s as well as every kind of pistol.
He went on to say, “Now what if I went up to the sheep and I said, ‘You wanna have a shot at the wolves? I’m going to give you a pistol. You can actually even the playing field with these wolves whose fangs are out — you can shoot them.’ There’s not a sheepdog for every citizen.”
Recalling the events of 9/11, which included the hijacking of a plane with the use of box cutters instead of guns, Stern insisted the “wolves” don’t need AR-15’s. He remarked, “The wolves are always planning. They’ll use boxcutters. They’ll use an airplane, fly it right into a building.”
Stern stressed that he does not like violence; he considers himself a sheep. But while politicians are well protected by their security people, public citizens are sitting ducks.
“I’m not for taking away people’s rights,” he stated.
