As a Colorado resident, there are a lot of things about my state to be proud of. They are known for the great skiing, the legendary John Elway, and the immense Rocky Mountains. These are all good things, so hopefully the state doesn’t become known for election fraud as well.
A recent report recently exposed the fact that dead people have been voting in the state, per Denver.CBSLocal.com.
The revelation calls into question the safeguards Colorado has in order to prevent this type of occurrence. One individual who is particularly concerned would be the Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams.
“We do believe there were several instances of potential vote fraud that occurred,” he said. “It shows there is a potential for fraud.”
Dead men and women casting ballots were found mainly across the Front Range of the state, including some instances in El Paso County over by Colorado Springs and across the Denver metropolitan area including the counties of Denver and Jefferson.
The investigative journalism of CBS4 has triggered an investigation into these practices, including a state-wide investigation by the Secretary of State.
One notable case was of Sara Sosa who died in Colorado Springs on October 14, 2009. Despite that she and her husband Miguel (who passed away in 2008) were found with ballots cast in their name in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013.
“I was shocked and surprised at this,” El Paso County Clerk and Recorder Chuck Broerman said. “This cannot happen. We cannot have this here or anyplace in our country. Our democracy depends on it. People have spilled their blood for the values and underpinnings and beliefs of this country.”
Another potential case would be that of Nell “Ma” Cluck, who passed away on February 1, 2009, but managed to vote in an election nine months later. “I think mom would be really unhappy about it,” her son Jim said. “I think mom would be really disheartened to know somebody used her name to do something she didn’t have any input into. If mom passes away and nine months later someone votes for her, that’s not right.”
The only thing left to say in this matter is that it’s a good thing this was uncovered now, because “Crooked Hillary” would have definitely got the cemetery vote come November!
