Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump beat expectations by raising $51 million for the month of June, besting all other months to date combined.
“The combined $51 million falls short of the $68.5 million that presumptive Democratic contender Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party collected in June, which included $40.5 million she raised directly for her campaign,” The Washington Post reported.
As reported by Western Journalism, the Trump campaign did not actively start soliciting donations until the end of May. In an appearance on Fox and Friends during the last week of June, the candidate’s son, Eric Trump, pointed out that while many media outlets ran with the story that the campaign raised just $1 million in May compared with Clinton’s $26 million, the truth is the campaign only began actively soliciting donations on May 28.
“The campaign said it received donations from more than 400,000 supporters, with 94 percent of those giving $200 or less,” the report said. “Trump personally contributed $3.8 million in June, bringing his total to $55 million.”
