For most of the past year, Carly Fiorina worked as hard as she could to beat Donald Trump.
First, she competed against the eventual GOP presidential nominee in the scrum of the 17-candidate Republican primary. After her campaign foundered, she returned to the fray briefly as the running mate of Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, in the final days of his campaign.
Now, as crunch time for Republicans emerges and the choice is stark, Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, says she is making a choice she wants all Americans to make.

“We must have President Trump — we can’t have President Clinton,” she told members of the Washington State Republican Party at their fall dinner, according to a tweet from the party.
The comment drew positive reaction.

Even before that, Fiorina had been firing away at Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
For decades, Hillary Clinton has lied and lied and lied. And it’s about time we called her out on it: pic.twitter.com/I3iYl80Zpu

Fiorina and Trump exchanged epic sound bites demeaning one another during the GOP’s tempestuous primary days.
Last September, Trump, when giving an interview, saw Fiorina on TV and exclaimed to a reporter, “Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?!”
For her part, while she was working with Cruz, Fiorina had plenty of unkind words to say about Trump.
“There are people in our party who are actually kind of horrified by Donald Trump. I’m one of them,” she said.
Fiorina has been making the rounds of various states this fall to assist Republican candidates. The speeches helped to set off rumors that she is seeking to become the next chairwoman of the Republican National Committee.
