In a leaked 2015 email sent to a well-placed Hillary Clinton adviser, an MSNBC producer offered over-the-top praise for the former secretary of state in a somewhat embarrassing attempt to book a Clinton aide as a guest.
Sheara Braun, a producer for MSNBC’s “All In With Chris Hayes,” showered Clinton in praise throughout the email to campaign spokeswoman Adrienne Elrod and bragged about the “Hillary Clinton for Millennials” segment they had been running every night. The point of the segment, the producer said, was to inform young people about “all the crap and nonsense” Clinton faced during her husband’s presidential run in the 1990s.
After requesting to have Clinton aide Lisa Caputo on the show, Braun took the Hillary praise to the next level:
“The point isn’t to dwell on the past but the point is to talk about this amazing, intelligent woman who probably faced more nonsense back in the day because she is a woman…and she continues to have to face it. She is smarter than most men and more qualified than most men to be president.”
Here’s the full email exchange:
Reactions to the email have varied. Some have pointed to it as glaring evidence of media bias, while a few have defended Braun and argued the producer was merely fighting for access as the booker for the show.
