The recent riots outside a Donald Trump rally in San Jose, Calif., are being branded as “anti-American” by two leading conservative voices.
“These are anarchists,” former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Saturday on Fox News. “When Trump said that they were ‘thugs,’ that’s the most polite thing you can say about people who burn the American flag and wave a Mexican flag and think that’s going to help their cause.”
Huckabee said the violence far exceed the norm.
“Protesting is an American sport, but throwing things at people and beating up cops and pelting women and scaring the daylights out of them, that’s not America,” Huckabee said.
“This is anti-Americanism,” Huckabee said.
Talk show host Rush Limbaugh said Friday the recent anti-Trump riots in San Jose were “not really anti-Trump. They’re anti-Trump supporter riots. And beyond that, they’re really anti-America riots, since they are really violently protesting as American citizens exercising their constitutional right to express their political opinion.”
“Many of these people are anti-America,” Limbaugh said, noting that although Trump is condemned for the violence, other candidates are doing nothing to stop them.
“Well, where are Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders after such events … where are they asking their supporters to stand down? They’re not even distancing themselves from these supporters. These are Hillary Clinton supporters. They’re certainly not Trump supporters. They’re Bernie Sanders supporters. They’re liberal Democrats. Some of them are illegal citizens, illegal aliens,” Limbaugh said.
Limbaugh said the rioters have the tacit approval of the media.
“You don’t see the media admonishing them. The media, some of them are uncomfortable with what they’re seeing, but at the end of the day they like it. They have wanted this kind of stuff to descend on Trump. They feel Trump has gotten away with things no Republican should ever be allowed to get away with, ever. They have been powerless to stop it,” he said.
Limbaugh said the result of this is that “(w)e have the (media) and the Democrat Party ecstatic over these bloody riots which feature plenty of anti-Americanism.”
“In fact, there’s a couple of Trump supporters that were caught up to by local media in California, San Jose, said, ‘This doesn’t look like the America I know.’ And it doesn’t,” Limbaugh added. “I mean, the American flag is being burned. The Mexican flag is being waved. The protest signs say ‘Make California Mexico again.’”
