At a recent event for the AFL-CIO, Democratic Congressman Ted Strickland of Ohio commented on the passing of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, claiming that the associate justice’s death “happened at a good time” for the Democratic agenda.
“A lot of average citizens out there don’t understand the importance of [the U.S. Supreme Court],” Strickland said to the audience. “I mean the death of Scalia saved labor from a terrible decision.” Strickland’s comment was followed by applause from his left-leaning audience.
“I don’t mean anyone ill but what happened, it happened at a good time,” Strickland added. At that, the Ohio Democrat’s audience began laughing.
