Michelle Obama tried to take a shot at Donald Trump during a commencement at the City College of New York this week, but she ended up reminding the audience and America what liberal activists had been doing for years.
According to the U.K. Guardian, during her commencement speech, the first lady told the audience, “Here in America we don’t let our differences tear us apart. Here in America we don’t give in to our fears, we don’t build walls to keep people out.”
While not mentioning Trump by name, she talked of those who would “tell us to be afraid of those who are different, to be suspicious of those with whom we disagree. They act as if name-calling is an acceptable substitute for thoughtful debate, as though anger and intolerance should be our default rather than optimism and openness that have always been the engine of our progress.”
There’s one problem, and it has to do with this (WARNING — language):
They look pretty “suspicious of those with whom we disagree.”
Or, how about this, which happened Friday in San Jose?
Yes, it seems that while she was taking aim at Trump, she ended up better describing how liberals have reacted to him.
They are “afraid of those who are different,” or who hold different opinions than them. They believe, as you can see, that name-calling (or violence) is an acceptable substitute for debate. They believe, as you can also see, that anger and intolerance should be our default, especially when a candidate’s opinions don’t align with theirs.
For that matter, I find it humorous that those around the president now seem to believe that he’s been peddling “optimism and openness” all these years. While the “hope and change” president has always been optimistic when things are going well, whenever he faces the slightest adversity, this is a man who hides behind a wall of divisive rhetoric and identity politics. The first lady has always done the same, as well.
Thanks for reminding us of this, Michelle Obama. It’s rare that we truly get reminded just how divisive and intolerant the left is, all the while promoting itself as a fount of tolerance.
Please like and share on Facebook and Twitter if you agree the intolerance of the left needs to end.
