NFL legend Mike Ditka became a successful football coach by knowing the right play to call. For him, speaking at this summer’s Republican National Convention, even when asked by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, is not the right call.
“I can help him, but I don’t know if I can give a speech at the convention, Ditka told the Chicago Tribune Wednesday. I don’t travel much anymore except between Chicago and Florida, and giving a speech at a convention isn’t really my style. … I spoke with Mr. Trump this afternoon, and he invited me. But I don’t think I’m going to go.”
However, the outspoken ESPN commentator made it very clear that he is not backing off his support for Trump.
“The Republican Party has its head up its a–,” Ditka said. “If he’s the candidate, you’ve got to get behind him. It does the party no good. They’re a bunch of a–holes.”
