Throughout the tenure of the Obama Administration our President has demonstrated a great admiration for the Saudis. Not only has he been an incredible advocate of Islam – of which the Saudis proctor the two most holy sites in that dogma – but he has publicly bowed to the Saudi King, thus communicating subservience to the Saudi royal family.
President Obama added to that list of national embarrassment Friday by vetoing the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, via BizPacReview.com. This law would have allowed Americans directly affected by the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 – those who were injured or the families of those who were killed – to sue the Saudi government for culpability. Obama vetoed the bi-partisan bill citing fears of economic and judicial retribution, leading GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump to call the move “shameful.”
The US Federal Government refused to release 29 pages of a report addressing the Saudi involvement in the September 11, 2001 attacks for years. At the same time, multiple law enforcement agency investigators – including those with the Joint Terrorism Task Forces in Washington and San Diego, said their investigations were hobbled at every turn.
Stunningly, this effort by President Obama finds him standing alone on the issue. The legislation was not only co-sponsored in a bi-partisan manner, but one of the bill’s biggest advocates was US Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who called the veto a “disappointing decision.”
Schumer said the Senate will “swiftly” vote to override Mr. Obama’s veto. Schumer said, “If the Saudis did nothing wrong, they should not fear this legislation. If they were culpable in 9/11, they should be held accountable.”
Should Congress vote to override President Obama’s veto, it would be the first time in the tenure of his presidency that one of his vetoes was reversed by the Legislative Branch.
Obama, for his part, long promised to veto the bill. He insisted it must happen for fears of economic retaliation. He also supposed the possibility that other countries would change their immunity laws in a legal tit for tat with United States.
“Removing sovereign immunity in US courts from foreign governments that are not designated as state sponsors of terrorism,” Obama said, “based solely on allegations that such foreign governments’ actions abroad had a connection to terrorism-related injuries on U.S. soil, threatens to undermine these longstanding principles that protect the United States, our forces, and our personnel.”
Donald Trump, in a statement slamming Obama’s decision and the illogical reasoning behind it, called the move “shameful” Friday.
“President Obama’s veto of the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act is shameful and will go down as one of the low points of his presidency,” Trump said in a statement. “That President Obama would deny the parents, spouses and children of those we lost on that horrific day the chance to close this painful chapter in their lives is a disgrace.”
Many believe the Saudi involvement in the attacks was deliberately covered up at the highest levels of our government, alleging the cover-up goes well beyond the former sequestered 29 pages of the report. Case agents interviewed at the Joint Terrorism Task Forces in Washington and San Diego, as well as detectives at the Fairfax County Virginia Police Department who also investigated 9/11 leads, insist that virtually every road led back to the Saudi Embassy in Washington, as well as the Saudi Consulate in Los Angeles.
But as they began to uncover the truth, time and again they were thwarted from pursuing leads. The constant and common excuse: “diplomatic immunity.”
Mr. Obama, given his penchant for the Saudi royals, appears to – once again – be obstructing justice, this time to protect the very people connected to those who slaughtered 2,977 people on September 11, 2001. For that, alone, there is a special circle Hades has reserved for him in Danté’s Hell.
