And in this corner…
From the time he threw his ball cap into the Republican presidential ring, to the moment he successfully completed “mission impossible” and effectively clinched the nomination, Donald Trump has been picking his political battles.
With 16 vanquished Republican opponents in his wake, the presumptive GOP nominee on Wednesday picked his battle with the biggest Democrat of all.
Speaking to a raucous crowd at the Sacramento International Jet Center, the billionaire-businessman-turned-presidential-candidate fired off a blistering attack against President Barack Obama — including a clear warning that Obama is going to be a major target of the fall campaign, no matter whose name is atop the Democrat ballot.
Trump was responding to an earlier Obama speech in Indiana, where the president did not use Trump’s name, but cynically accused him of pretending a “magic wand” was going to solve the nation’s problems, according to The Hill.
“He just says, ‘Well, I’m going to negotiate a better deal.’ Well, what, how exactly are you going to negotiate that? What magic wand do you have? And usually the answer is, he doesn’t have an answer,” Obama said.
Trump — who’s raised rhetorical retaliation to art-of-war form — welcomed Obama to the political fight with an icy threat.
“He’s going to start campaigning,” Trump said, according to the U.K. Daily Mail. “If he campaigns, that means I’m allowed to hit him just like I hit Bill Clinton, I guess, right?
“If he doesn’t, I don’t care. But if he campaigns, and I think he wants to because he wants to keep his terrible agenda going where everybody is ripping us, where the world is ripping us off.”
As the Republican nomination fight demonstrated, when Trump hits, he hits hard. And his campaign has already shown it will tackle Bill Clinton on his disgraceful sexual past — from consensual sex with a White House intern to credible rape accusations dating back to his time in Arkansas.
There hasn’t been a hint of that kind of sexual scandal in the Obama administration, of course (though the way the mainstream media has protected the Democrat in the Oval Office, America wouldn’t hear about it if something were going down). But God knows the past seven years provide plenty of ammunition to attack Obama with.
He could start with how Obama let Hillary Clinton, his one-time secretary of state, flout the law so flagrantly while she was in office that she’s been running for president just a step ahead of FBI investigators for the past year now.
“Honestly, she shouldn’t be allowed to run. It’s a disgrace to the laws of our country. She should not be allowed to run,” Trump told the crowd.
“With that being said, I want to beat her!”
And beat down the current president while he’s at it.
