You’re damned if you do, and you’re damned if you don’t.
It’s a saying that is trite but true if you’re Donald Trump these days. Since the billionaire businessman kicked off his campaign last June he has been consistently accused of not providing specifics on his policies. Subsequently, every time Mr. Trump releases specific plans, his critics immediately pounce on them, calling them impractical or impossible.
The media has done it, his GOP rivals have done it, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have done it. So the Republican frontrunner has been between a rock and a hard place when it comes to whether he should release specifics or not.
His latest critic is not a surprising one. After previously attacking Trump for not releasing enough details on his policy plans and questioning the seriousness of his candidacy, our pundit-in-chief is after The Donald again. This time President Obama strongly criticized Trump for the statement his campaign released today on how a President Trump would get Mexico to pay for his border wall.
Perhaps in an attempt to boost support on Tuesday for his campaign in the Wisconsin GOP primary election, the Trump camp released a two-page statement to the Washington Post on how a President Trump would get Mexico to pay for a border fence between the U.S. and Mexico.
Immediately, our pundit-in-chief, Barack Obama voiced his opposition to Trump’s plan, taking a jab at Ted Cruz in the process:
“I’ve been clear earlier that I’m getting questions constantly about some of the wackier suggestions that are being made,” Obama said. “I have to emphasize it’s not just Mr. Trump’s proposals. You’re hearing concerns about Mr. Cruz’s proposals—in some ways, just as draconian when it comes to immigration, for example. The implications with respect to ending remittances, from legal immigrants and from individuals sending money back home to their families, are enormous. First of all, they’re impractical. We just talked about the difficulties of trying to enforce huge outflows of capital. The notion we’re going to track every Western Union of money sent to Mexico—good luck with that.”
President Obama then went on to lecture the American people that if we stop allowing illegal aliens to send money back to Mexico their economy will collapse.
Apparently the best liberal thinking says that we should open up our borders to everyone, propping up their economies while tearing down ours.
