Over 20,000 Illegal Alien Children Entered US In Past Five Months

The surge continues – the U.S. hasn’t removed the welcome mat.

According to the Congressional Research Service, the number of unaccompanied alien children illegally crossing the border into the US surged by over 1,200 percent between 2011 to 2014.   Most recently, “The flow has increased significantly in the first five months of fiscal 2016.”

In 2014, border patrol reported they apprehended more than 52,000 illegal alien children.   So far, in the first five months of fiscal year 2016, nearly 20,000 have been apprehended.  Most are from Central America, including El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

Analysts have warned that the flow will only increase as long as the U.S. immigration policy is advantageous to illegal immigrants.

In fiscal year 2015, more than 28,300 unaccompanied illegal children were apprehended at the border, but ICE only deported a total of 1,141.

The United States has footed a large portion of the bill to increase border security and bolster the ability of Central American governments to stem this flow, awarding $20 million to Mexico and $748 million to Central America this year.

Editor’s Note:   Teens up to 18 are also categorized as “children”, and Border Patrol has said they often have no way of verifying identity or age.
