How many short videos put out by a politician running for office draw a quick, sharp reaction from the head of a powerful foreign government? Not many, that’s for sure. But when the ad is issued by the Trump for President campaign — and it features images of the president of Russia in relation to the so-called “punchline,” Hillary Clinton — you can understand why the mighty just might be inclined to say something.
As TPNN reported, Republican front-runner Donald Trump released the brief ad on Instagram on Wednesday, and it took no time at all for the video to go crazy-viral. It attacks presumptive Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton as unfit for office by showing her barking like a yippy dog. Then, the office of Vladimir Putin took a look at the spot.
While its online popularity is unquestionable, progressives definitely don’t dig it and apparently neither does the other well-known persona featured in the quick 15-second hit — the man Trump has said he could certainly get along with — the Russian president.
The ad starts with the words “When it comes to facing our toughest opponent,” and then cuts to video clips of Putin flipping an opponent while performing martial arts and an Islamic State fighter pointing his gun at the viewer. The words “The Democrats have the perfect answer” appear on the screen, quickly followed by Clinton barking like a dog at one of her rallies. Putin is then shown chuckling, and the advertisement ends with “We don’t need to be a punchline!” and Trump’s slogan “Make America Great Again.”
The Kremlin’s reaction to the piece was unfavorable, with presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov telling the Russian media outlet TASS, “We are very negative [about such use of the Russian president’s image].” He then added:
“It is common knowledge that demonization of Russia – let me put it this way – and everything related with it is regrettably a mandatory attribute of the US election campaign. We always regret this. We would like election processes to proceed without such allusions to our country.”
While liberals have condemned the ad as “sexist” and “baffling,” Clinton did indeed yap like a dog in front of an audience during a campaign stop in Nevada. Multiple video remakes have appeared online with the former secretary of state barking repeatedly.
