Last week Fox News host Sean Hannity asked viewers who they believed GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump should choose as his running mate. Over 61,000 people reportedly voted, and one name stood head and shoulders above the rest.
Almost a quarter of the respondents said former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich would be the best pick for Trump. Coming in second place with 14 percent was Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.
Another 13 percent of those polled believed retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson would make an ideal vice president for Trump. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich earned 9 and 7 percent respectively.
Trump needs someone with political experience and has even expressed as much, so Gingrich would definitely be a logical choice. Many of Hannity’s radio listeners agreed:
The former House speaker has even gone as far as to tell the GOP to get over it and accept the fact that the people have spoken and to go against their wishes would utterly destroy the Republican Party and ensure a Clinton win in the election.

As speaker, Gingrich was known to reach across party lines and knows how to get legislation passed. He also has an understanding of the levers of power in Washington. Gingrich would be additionally helpful to Trump with his history and knowledge of domestic and international policy.
Trump has yet to make a decision and you can bet his supporters are waiting with baited breath to find out who he chooses for his running mate.
If Hannity’s radio listeners are any indication of who Trump’s base would like to see battle it out for the White House, Gingrich should perhaps start preparing himself for another run for Washington.
