After the massacre in Orlando this Sunday, when radical Islamist terrorist Omar Mateen gunned down at least 49 men and women at a gay nightclub, President Barack Obama delivered a deceitful statement about gun control.
“This massacre is therefore a further reminder of how easy it is for someone to get their hands on a weapon that lets them shoot people in a school, or in a house of worship, or a movie theater, or in a nightclub,” he said. “And we have to decide if that’s the kind of country we want to be. And to actively do nothing is a decision as well.”
The president also compared the terrorist attack to shootings committed by those with a mental illness. Moreover, he made no mentions of the root motivation behind Sunday’s attack: radical Islamic terrorism.
He instead used his speech to promote his own political agenda, or so argued counter-terrorism expert James Jay Carafano of the Heritage Foundation. In an interview with USA Radio, Carafano said taking guns away from law-abiding citizens is not the right way to handle this.
Nor would it be appropriate it to implement even more gun regulations. Buyers of weapons must already endure tedious processes to obtain their guns, Americans accept these processes because they agree with Obama that not everyone should be permitted to be purchase a gun.
What the American people disagree with him on is this notion that we must make the process even more burdensome and intrusive — or that doing this would somehow curb the rise of radical Islamic terrorism.
“For the United States, the most effective way to defeat terrorism is to find plots and stop them before they come to fruition,” Carafano argued. “You have to be good at what you do, you have to be good at intelligence sharing in a 24/7, 365 [days] … very non-politically correct kind of way.”
Exactly, though the problem here is that our own president won’t even admit the existence of radical Islamic terrorism. That’s a big, big, big problem — as well as another likely reason why acts of terror appear to be on the rise: The terrorists know our president won’t do anything to stop them.
