Presumed Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has been criticized by many people for his comments regarding the massive amount of illegal immigration through America’s southern border.
But those Trump-haters may be whistling a different tune after a Mexican official admitted that Mexico is “at the limit” with what it can do to stop the tide of migrants attempting to enter the United States illegally.
Statistics showed that Mexico was detaining fewer and fewer migrants, despite a surge in detentions on the U.S. side of the border. This is not, apparently, a deliberate plot on the part of Mexico — they simply don’t have enough resources to deal with this flood of people.
“When you’re constantly working at full speed and don’t have all the resources because your primary mission is to fight the drug cartels, yeah, you’re going to be stretched,” U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, told Yahoo News.
“We’re at the limit of our resources,” Mexico’s deputy interior minister responsible for migration, Humberto Roque Villanueva, stated flatly.
This migration crisis isn’t nearly as severe as the crisis that Europe is facing right now, but it has the potential to get much worse once you factor in the tens of thousands of Syrian refugees that President Barack Obama wants to import into the country.
Trump has repeatedly vowed to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border to stop the flow of illegal immigrants, as well as deport the millions of illegals who are still living in the United States thanks to Obama’s lax immigration enforcement.
Many Republicans have expressed concern that the Islamic State terror group, or some other radical Islamic organization, could exploit the porous southern border and use it as a way to get operatives on American soil — if they’re not here already.
Trump’s plan may be extreme to some, but given the flood of illegal immigration America has seen over the past few years, the country cannot simply sit back and do nothing. We need to secure our border and put Americans first.
