Not ones to be forced to kowtow to the demands of putative dictators, the officials at the Kansas State Board of Education voted unanimously this week to reject the Obama administration’s policies that all public schools implement transgender bathrooms.
Instead officials left it up to individual school districts to decide how best to tackle the controversial issue based on how their own students, parents and educators felt.
“We must continue to provide our schools the flexibility needed to work with their students, families and communities to effectively address the needs of the students they serve,” the board announced in a statement, according to Associated Press.
If only President Barack Obama possessed as much sense as they do.
Sadly, he doesn’t, which is why earlier this year his administration decreed that all schools must set up transgender bathrooms under the threat of lost federal funding.
Moreover, the administration did so illegally by citing the Title IX anti-discrimination law of 1972, acting as if its stipulations regarding sex discrimination also apply to so-called “gender-identity discrimination.”
The insane policy immediately inspired wide backlash from numerous state legislators, including Kansas Rep. Tim Huelskamp, who reportedly wrote, “Neither our girls or boys should be forced to undress in the presence of individuals who are of the opposite biological sex.”
“Our children should also not be subjected to a greater risk of threats from predators who seek to do them harm,” he added.
Some people disagree with this, and that’s fine. Individual school districts should be allowed to tailor their own bathroom regimens based on the needs of their particularly community. If one community wants transgender bathrooms, so be it, and vice versa.
Obama sees it differently, though. Just like with Obamacare, he wants to impose a one-size-fits-all regulation. Apparently, he learned nothing from that law’s abysmal failure.
