Tennessee To Sue Feds Over Refugee Resettlement

Tennessee had opted not to administer the refugee resettlement program, but the federal government forced participation by going through the Catholic Charities organization.

On Monday, the House of Representatives voted to allow the State of Tennessee to sue the federal government, as the feds failed to consult with the state on placement of refugees in Tennessee, and have shifted the cost of administering the program to the State.

Tennessee will be suing based on the 10th Amendment, which states that the federal government possess powers only delegated to it by the US Constitution and all other powers are reserved for the states.

Democrats opposing the resolution said it will “negatively affect the state’s refugee community and perpetuate a culture of fear.”

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam said he is not concerned about the safety issue regarding refugee resettlement.

Tennessee is now home to one of the fast-growing Islamic immigrant populations in the country.

Breitbart News had previously reported that the operation of the U.S. Refugee Resettlement Program has become a lucrative industry for a number of voluntary agencies, many of which are affiliated with Christian organizations.
